Do they still make that?

Most of the conference was spent talking about our #1 customer and our struggles to survive POS or Pay On Scan. The fact that our actual scan rate is below what our customer believes we should be scanning based on their calculations. In other words, we get a certain cost based on a scan rate that they think we should scan. Although, reality is a few points lower which turned out to be a few million in losses. Good thing we know how to cut expenses, such as my salary.

Anyways, we are surviving and we actually found some risky investors that want to give us money for acquisitions. I guess we need more volume to survive and according to our CEO, "If you aren't growing, you are dying!"

God bless my company and yours as well.....because its going to be tough in the future w/o "W"!

tc

20 Weeks and Counting!

Joshua Phillip Carver is just over 20 weeks old now, or about 4 1/2 months. Can you believe he has lived 0.5% of his life based on an average life expectancy of 77 1/2 years. My how time flies. I guess that means I have lived over 45% of my life. Wow, I still have more than half my life left! Of course, I could have a better than average life expectancy. I am going to need it because I will be 50 years old when he starts high school. It is going to be tough playing him one on one basketball at that age.

Joshua weighed in at 16lbs 11ozs and stretched to just above 25in at his last doctor visit. He is in the 75th percentile on his weight gain (that is why he is nicknamed "Fat Tony") and average on his length. According to the Doctor's chart, based on mine and the wife's height, he should end up around 5'10".

Joshua had his first tast of snow the last week of December when 5 foot of snow fell in 3 days while we were vacationing at Angel Fire New Mexico. Needless to say, he spent most of his time indoors and hopefully will get his chance to snow ski in the future.

Joshua is also going to get a new home. We purchased 2.5 acres and plan on building our own house. The plans are done and we are waiting approval of the construction loan as well as approval from the dreaded ACC (Architectural Control Committee).

Here are recent pics!

<img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; Moving from an 850 square foot house to a 2200 square foot house is a change that most would enjoy, with new furniture purchases and the like. But, going from a 2200 sq. ft. house to a 850 square foot house is quite the opposite of enjoyment. The garage is full, the back room is full, the storage shed is full, and the storage unit is full. Luckily, mamaw has moved out, or we might have to invest in a storage unit facility.

30 Weeks!

We have had a couple of weeks of birthing class and 30 weeks of pregnancy and still no decision on a first name..... let us know your favorite!

here is the short list in no particular order:
Joshua Phillip
Braden Phillip
Hunter Phillip
Bo or Beau Phillip
Brandon Phillip
Oliver Phillip
Nolan Phillip
and of course Rawley Phillip (my choice)

We have also listed our house for sale and have a contract on it already. Not much to report, although it was kind of weird watching someone else probe Lori and carry on a conversation while doing so. They took a blood sample and a urine sample along with the infamous inspection to determine whether or not she has little boy hips (by the way, she has little girl hips). Everything seems to be ok! We'll do it again in another month.

Out!

I have been Tagged

thanks to Jeff !

4 Jobs I've Had:
research assistant---boring, tedious, but met good people
agricultural consultant---lots of travel (1500 miles per week)
fire systems technician---my mother's dream (a long story)
bulk mail specialist---have you ever stood in the same place for 8 hours a day?

4 Goals I've Set for this year:
I need help with this one.....

4 movies I could watch over and over
I have a hard time watching the same movie twice, but if i were still 15 years old I would be watching Footloose If you haven't heard of Squidoo.com, then follow the link. The website is an online community of "lenses" allowing people to earn a buck while sharing their expertise. I found the site while reading an article on CNN. The website gives money to charity as well as the lensmasters who build their pages bringing people to their sites. Pretty Cool Stuff.

Here are my two lenses, which you can find in my favorite links as well.

Texas Garden
Texas Tech

Out!

HTML

Tim Berners-Lee started (HTML) hypertext markup language along with the (WWW)world wide web and is one bad muther! And guess what? My company has decided to change insurance providers. And guess what? The ob/gyn that my wife has been going to her whole life no longer accepts our new insurance provider. And guess what? That Sucks!

This situation has taken the fun out of having a baby and points to the fact that the insurance industry and healthcare in general needs to be revamped. In order for my company that I work for to keep our rates at the same premium as last year, my company had to change providers. The provider they changed to is known for being hard on doctors and refusing to pay exhorborant, overpriced doctor bills. We stayed at the Red Lion Hanalei Hotel.

You know sales conferences are almost always a waste of time. They are more for camaraderie and moral boosting! Well, this one was really no different. We had the presentations from the CEO, the COO, the president, the GM's, the account mgr's, the customer service mgr's, the distribution mgr's, the sales mgr's, and etc... We do have a dynamic president and it is always a pleasure to hear his presentation.

Anyways, the big topic at hand was the introduction of Pay on Scan (POS) by our #1 customer. We have began this in a few markets and will be rolling it out in the DFW market come February. Now, I am not a proponent of this concept which is basically consignment sales. I think we should just open tents on every corner and sell our product directly to the consumer. But, since our sales pie is heavily weighted by our #1 customer and my company is heavily weighted by investors, grower direct will probably never be a reality due to the risk.

Change is inevitable for success!

People always fear change. People feared electricity when it was invented, didn't they? People feared coal, they feared gas-powered engines... There will always be ignorance, and ignorance leads to fear. But with time, people will come to accept their silicon masters. Bill Gates

Red Raiders Go Down Hard!

Texas Tech looked like a bunch of high schoolers in a blowout loss to #5 Texas by the score of 46-80. These pics are from a trip not long ago. As most people know, King Kong is making a comeback. I think I prefer Kong in black and white vs. the colorful re-make, although, I have not seen the new movie.

I believe Spiderman was re-made as well. As a matter of fact, it looks like there will be a Spiderman 3 due out May 4, 2007. If only they could re-make "Every Which Way But Loose" and "Any Which Way You Can" with that great monkey named "Clyde" from the pic above.

Does anybody get tired of re-makes? For many months he had admired a beautiful sports car in a dealer's showroom, and knowing his father could well afford it, he told him that was all he wanted. As Graduation Day approached, the young man awaited signs that his father had purchased the car.

Finally, on the morning of his graduation, his father called him into his private study. His father
told him how proud he was to have such a fine son, and told him how much he loved him. He handed his
son a beautiful wrapped gift box. Curious, but somewhat disappointed, the young man opened the box and found a lovely, leather-bound Bible, with the young man's name embossed in gold. Angrily, he raised his voice to his father and said, "With all your money you give me a Bible? and stormed out of the house, leaving the Bible.

Many years passed and the young man was very successful in business. He had a beautiful home and wonderful family, but realized his father was very old, and thought perhaps he should go to him. He had not seen him since that graduation day. Before he could make arrangements, he received a telegram telling him his father had passed away, and willed all of his possessions to his son. He needed to come home immediately and take care of things.

When he arrived at his father's house, sudden sadness and regret filled his heart. He began to search through his father's important papers and saw the still new Bible, just as he had left it years ago. With tears, he opened the Bible and began to
turn the pages. His father had carefully underlined a verse,

Matt 7:11, "And if ye, being evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more
shall your Heavenly father which is in heaven, give to those who ask Him?"

As he read those words, a car key dropped from the back of the Bible. It had a tag with the dealer's name, the same dealer who had the sports car he had desired. On the tag was the date of his graduation, and the words...PAID IN FULL.

How many times do we miss God's blessings because they are not packaged as we expected? I trust you enjoyed this. Pass it on to others. Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; but remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for...

IF YOUR GIFT IS NOT PACKED THE WAY YOU WANT IT, IT'S BECAUSE IT IS BETTER PACKED THAT WAY! ALWAYS APPRECIATE LITTLE THINGS; THEY USUALLY LEAD YOU TO ATTACHMENTS!

Morning Sickness

my wife is pregnant for those of you who do not know!
